A Baltic man was killed Saturday, Dec. 17, when he was hit by an SUV in Hartford while snowmobiling.
Jarvis Brende, 42, was traveling with a group about 6:30 p.m. when his 2015 Arctic Cat snowmobile overturned while crossing Highway 38 near 462nd Avenue. While Brende was attempting to put the snowmobile back on its track, he was struck by a 2001 GMC Jimmy, according to Adam Zishka, patrol captain with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department.
The driver of the SUV attempted to slow down but was unable to, said Zishka. Road conditions at the time were hampered by a mix of snow and ice.
“It’s an ongoing investigation but charges are unlikely,” he said.
