BROOKINGS — A South Dakota-based international seed distributor is expanding their production line through the purchase of another seed company in northeastern Minnehaha County.

Millborn Seeds, headquartered in Brookings, announced Tuesday, April 11, the acquisition of State Line Seed Company, a custom seed cleaning facility.

In a news release, Millborn Seeds said State Line’s location in Sherman — a town of roughly 80 people to the northeast of Garretson — will aid the company in their efforts to transport seed products to their customers in all 50 states and abroad, calling it an “ideal fit.”

“With a vision to provide the highest quality products to our customers, State Line Seed Company is a great addition to the Millborn organization,” said Matt Fenske, CEO of Millborn Seeds. “The location and facilities will allow us to grow our production capabilities and move product to our customers even quicker through our advanced network of production and distribution.”

The already-finalized acquisition saw Sherman become Millborn’s second production facility, with another operating in Hemingford, Nebraska. The company also operates retail locations in North Sioux City and Rapid City.
