SIOUX FALLS – A 28-year-old Sioux Falls man was arrested after witnesses said he fired a gun several times outside a laundromat near 14th Street and Minnesota Avenue on Saturday, Feb. 4.

Police spokesperson Sam Clemens said that at about 9 p.m. Saturday a man exchanged words with a couple people in the parking lot of the laundromat while walking to his vehicle. When he got to the vehicle, he heard several gunshots and thought they were fired at him. Other witnesses in the area also heard the shots.

“They were able to figure out who this other person was who had the gun,” Clemens said during the regular police department briefing on Monday, Feb. 6.

Tyrone Lee Appleton, 28, was arrested about 2:30 a.m. Sunday near the laundromat. He was charged with aggravated assault and reckless discharge of a firearm.

“He did have a gun with him when he was arrested,” Clemens said. “We believe that it was probably the same gun that was used.”
