One killed, one injured in Saturday afternoon motorcycle crash in Sioux Falls

The driver of a motorcycle was killed while a passenger is listed in critical condition.

SIOUX FALLS — One person was killed and another was injured Saturday, Feb. 11, in a motorcycle-vehicle crash in central Sioux Falls.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., first responders in Sioux Falls were dispatched to the intersection of West 8th Street and North Covell Avenue for a report of a motorcycle-vehicle crash.

According to a news release from the Sioux Falls Police Department, a motorcycle had collided with a Mercedes SUV near the intersection.

The male driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, while the female passenger sustained critical injuries and was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital. Neither were wearing a helmet.

No injuries were reported to any occupants of the SUV.

The Sioux Falls Police Department is leading the investigation into the crash.

The crash was the second traffic fatality in the city on Saturday, after another person was killed after a vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a quarry in the city's northwest end Saturday morning.
