SIOUX FALLS — Police in Sioux Falls are investigating a shoplifting incident as a robbery after a suspect showed a firearm during a confrontation with an employee.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, police in Sioux Falls were called to O’Reilly Auto Parts in the 4700 block of East Arrowhead Parkway for a report of a shoplifter who displayed a firearm.

Police spokesman Sam Clemens said one suspect was observed to be shoplifting in the store. When one employee confronted the suspect at the exit, the suspect showed a gun.

The gun was not pointed at the employee, but instilled a fear of great bodily harm to the employee, and is being investigated as a robbery, Clemens said.

No arrests have been made in the case.
