One person dead after overnight fire in central Sioux Falls

Firefighters found the victim on the second story of building in the 500 block of West Ninth Street early Monday morning.

SIOUX FALLS — A person was found dead after a fire in central Sioux Falls early Monday, Jan. 23.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was called about 3:30 a.m. to structure in the 500 block of West Ninth Street for a report of smoke inside the building.
When crews arrived, they confirmed smoke and then located the on the second floor.
The firefighters entered the building and found the person, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation by fire investigators and the Sioux Falls Police Department.
The fire department reminds residents to have working smoke detectors throughout their homes and a fire escape plan.
