Police find 1 dead in overturned vehicle in northwestern Sioux Falls

Police have not released any information regarding the crash's recency upon its discovery or if it's believed another vehicle was involved.

SIOUX FALLS — Police in Sioux Falls are investigating a fatality after a vehicle was found overturned in a field in the city’s northwestern edge.

Shortly before 1:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, officers with the Sioux Falls Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of 259th Street and 471st Avenue, the northernmost edge of city limits, for a report of a crash.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered a Ford F150 overturned in the middle of a field.

The vehicle’s only occupant, a male, was declared dead on the scene, according to Sgt. Joel Dalton.

No additional information regarding the crash was released during Tuesday morning’s regular media briefing. The time of the crash and whether other vehicles were involved remains unclear.

According to Dalton, the Sioux Falls Police Department’s Traffic Section is leading the ongoing investigation with assistance from the agency’s unmanned aerial surveillance team.
