SIOUX FALLS — Police say they found the vehicle — but not the driver — involved in a fatal hit and run on Friday, March 17.

A 24-year-old man from Mission, South Dakota, was killed after the Jeep Cherokee he was driving on North Marion Road became stuck in the ditch near the intersection with West Bentgrass Street, shortly after 10 p.m.

Police say the vehicle fled the scene after striking the individual.

The man got out of the vehicle and then was struck by the driver of a pickup truck, police spokesman Samuel Clemens said Monday, March 20.

Police later found the pickup parked in a different location but have not identified who was driving it at the time of the accident.

The weather conditions likely contributed to the crash. At that time on Friday, there were high winds with blowing snow and icy roads, Clemens said.

“It’s hard to know if that’s the reason it happened or if there was some other reason,” he said “That’s what investigators will hopefully be able to determine.”
