SIOUX FALLS — Three people were hurt in a construction accident on the Sanford campus in central Sioux Falls on Thursday, May 25.
Shortly after 2 p.m., first responders in Sioux Falls were dispatched to a construction site to the south of Sanford Children’s Hospital for a report of a structural collapse.
According to the health system, the issue occurred when scaffolding collapsed, injuring three construction workers. The victims were working on the grounds where a 205,000-square-foot orthopedic hospital is currently being erected.
The extent of their injuries was not released.
The collapse was isolated to the construction site, and did not affect the operations of the existing hospital buildings.

A section of 22nd Street was briefly closed during the response, but has since been reopened to traffic.
