SIOUX FALLS — A South Dakota Highway Patrol officer was injured Thursday, March 16, after a semi struck the trooper’s squad car on Interstate 90.

The crash happened shortly after noon near the Marion Road exit, where a trooper was providing traffic control for a separate crash that had occurred in the eastbound lane.

While the trooper was in their vehicle, an eastbound semi collided with the patrol vehicle. The trooper was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office, who is conducting the investigation into the crash, said visibility and road conditions played a role in the crash.

The driver of the semi was cited for overdriving the road conditions.
